Education and Awareness Activities

Educating young people about environmental issues by means of the visual arts is one of the main objectives of the Grantham Foundation.

As Vincent Bouchard-Valentine, professor at the Université du Québec à Montréal, has already pointed out in the publication "Éducation relative à l’environnement"*, visual arts are seen not only as an artistic practice but also as learning different forms of engagement, with the visual arts and environmental concerns enriching each other while preserving their own aims.

In this spirit, thanks to grants from Desjardins Group and the Caisses Desjardins of the Drummond sector, the Foundation offers educational and cultural establishments customized activities at their premises, at the Foundation or outdoors in the woods.

The Foundation welcomes student groups of all ages. It organizes visits by artists, researchers and visual arts educators. It also encourages the development of collective projects.

As an organization registered in the Répertoire culture-éducation of the Ministry of Culture and Communications of the Quebec Government and its program «A school welcomes an artist», the Foundation can also organize workshops, thus allowing students to participate in a long-term artistic experimentation (four to twelve weeks).

The Foundation has access to a collection of contemporary artworks and has a library specializing in the field. Teachers and students can view these books and works on request.

As the Foundation’s educational program is currently only aimed at students in the Drummondville area, all activities take place in French. Please check our French website for more information on our ongoing educational activities or email us via education@fondationgrantham.org.
